The Rev. John Ingersoll (1792-1859) was a Congregationalist minister and outspoken abolitionist, best known as the father of agnostic orator Robert G. Ingersoll. Another Ingersoll portrait by Ulke from the same daguerreotype appears in Kittredge's "Ingersoll: A Biographical Appreciation" (1911), page 21.
